Stuck in the Hallway of “Maybe” or “Not Sure!”

Have you ever had a season in life where you were in a hallway with multiple doors, but they all were labeled “maybe” or “not sure?” You are hungry for more, but you don’t know what the more is. Welcome to the season of waiting for the Lord’s direction! Why do we need to go through a time of waiting? It is a time of preparation to walk into the new without the baggage of the past.

Moving or Staying?

I am walking through the process of selling my home. It is a beautiful home that I have added features to make my life easier. I have a custom Amish built carport to keep the snow off my vehicle. I installed a water filter in the kitchen. I have an on and off switch for the waterline heat tape on the outside of my home for easy access. Everything is now set up for me to enjoy my home. God provided this home to restore a home I lost over twenty-five years ago. I love my home but then something changed.

About nine months ago, I could feel a shift in God’s Kingdom. That means there will be changes in the natural world. You can tell when a shift in the spiritual atmosphere is happening because you feel restlessness or dissatisfaction in your present life. It is like being hungry and going to the kitchen and finding nothing that you want to eat. It is not that your life is bad and may even be great but there is this shift in your thinking of desiring more. The problem is you don’t know what the more is going to be!

Walking Through the Hall of Indecision!

My home started to be a burden instead of a blessing. I hated all the responsibilities of homeownership. My neighbor, who I could depend on in times of need, moved away so I had no one I felt I could give my key to if I had an emergency. After a few months of these feelings, I realized it was time to move and put my house on the market. I wasn’t making the decision to move because of a few unsettled days but felt God’s direction to move.

I found the apartment complex I felt was God’s will. I put my home up for sale. Homes in our area are going fast. I had multiple people say I should sell but my home didn’t sell after being on the market for months. After a few months, I decided maybe I should stay because financially it would make more sense. I put selling my home back in God’s hands and said I can move or stay. God’s will be done.

Walking in Faith!

Earlier this year, God had asked me to trust Him. When I was learning to walk with God, He gave me this example to reveal if I was following Him and not my feelings. I had said to God, “I can’t feel your presence!” He said, “When you step into a river ankle deep and step back out, do you feel wet?” I said, “Yes.” He said, “When you step into a river knee deep and step back out, do you feel wet?” I said, “Yes.” He said, “When you are walking in the spirit with me, you are in the river of life. You are in my presence. You will only feel uncertain when you step out of the water.”

This year God said I wasn’t riding on top of the river but was I willing to ride the river under the water. I don’t like swimming, but I love walking with the Lord, so I said yes. Then I asked God what it meant to be under the water in the river. God revealed that being under the water means not seeing where He is taking me! For someone who loves to plan and be prepared this is a very unsettling walk with God. I learned a long time ago, that because I have a strong will, I have to surrender my will for God’s will. I know God loves me and that Jesus is proof of that love. So, I have learned to pray, “I am willing to be willing Lord!” Many of us are walking in this season of not being able to see ahead and it is unsettling.

The Process!

Why does God allow these times of not knowing and indecision? It is to prepare us for the new season and our next adventure! All these months of wavering were to remove the divide heart of letting go of good things so I can receive the better future. If we want the abundant life that Jesus promised, then we need to let go of good things and past season that could hold us back.

I love my home, but the last five years have been filled with trauma and pain. I had over twelve medical procedures, a fall while playing pickleball that required months of physical therapy, and a broken wrist that was nine months of recovery. God is using this transition to remove these traumas. Trauma can create a mindset that keeps you from moving forward. Our God is a God of restoration. Restoration means facing the past and pushing forward even when it is painful.

Good things can keep us from God’s best. Belonging to a group that is not going the same direction God is leading you will hold you back. It is not that the group is bad and might ever be great but is it where God wants you to spend your time. It could be helping a relative that has depended on you but now it is time for them to use their own faith for their future. When you continue to help them when that season is passed it stops God’s process in their life. Even in business, maybe you have many different options to expand. Good ideas stop God’s ideas and add burdens of responsibility that you have to carry. God’s direction aways bring supply. Maybe not in the time we want but it paves a pathway to an abundant life.

The Wrap Up!

This is a very unstable and confusing season of shifting and waiting for God’s direction. God is using this season of indecision to remove the old to prepare you for the new season. He doesn’t want us to carry the past loads and traumas. Allow God to work these undecisive times into a strong faith for the future. You got this! You were designed to be born at this time and season. Jesus has provided all that you need. Ask Jesus to lead you! Ask Holy Spirit for peace, God’s hugs, and wisdom. You haven’t missed God’s will. You are just in the process of waiting and being prepared for God’s best!

Prayer

Father God,

Help! I am choosing to trust you. I know you love me and want what is best for me. Jesus, please keep me on the right path as I follow you. Holy Spirit, I need your wisdom, grace, and comfort. I am willing to be willing to walk through this process to receive your best. Heal me from the past traumas and help me to face all my fears. Help me to let go of the good, including connections and incident, so I can receive your best. Thank you for not giving up on me. Because of the price Jesus paid and the grace of Holy Spirit, amen!
