Healing or Miracle?

God created us to have abundant life. He created our bodies to regenerate and bring wholeness to our bodies. Don’t you wonder if this is true why we don’t see more healing? Here is what I discovered about why healing may take time.

Sin causes trauma by disrupting your connection to God. In Genesis, chapter three, you can see this disconnection when Adam and Eve ate the fruit from the Tree of Knowledge. They hid from God. Why did they hide? It was the trauma of seeing themselves without God’s covering so they were exposed and naked. How do you know God’s covering was removed? In Genesis 2:16-17, God warned them that eating from this Tree of Knowledge would cause death. This death would eventually lead to physical death which is why the Tree of Life was removed to keep Adam and Eve from living forever under the penalty of separation from God. Their real death was spiritual separation from God which eventually leads to physical death. But God had a plan in place even before Adam and Eve went astray.

The Tree of Life is Jesus. God in his all-knowing view of past, present, and future, provided a new covering of sacrifice. The shedding of blood was the temporary animal skin covering that kept man connected to God. That plan was set in motion which is why Jesus chose to lay down his life to remove the sin that disconnected us.

Can Trauma Cause Sickness?

Why do I connect disease with trauma? Trauma is defined as a severe emotional, mental, or physical event that causes a reaction in our thinking process or body. In Matthew 9:2, Jesus tells a crippled man that his sins are forgiven. Then he instructed him to get up and walk. In James 5:16, the elders are instructed to have people confess their sins and they lay hands of the sick for them to recover. Now I am not saying all sickness is caused by sin! The women with the issue of blood, who suffered for twelve years, was not connected to sin directly.

The point I am trying to make is that when we are disconnected from God, our power source for life, it leads to a path that removes the supernatural abundant life God has for us. Sin causes trauma but so do many other things. It may not be our sin but others who have spoken words over us that are hurtful, mean, and life-destroying. Emotional trauma can cause damage. Eating unhealthy foods traumatizes your body’s DNA which can lead to disease.

Physical death didn’t happen instantly when Eve ate fruit from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. Spiritual disconnected or spiritual death did happen. When we face our mistakes and the mishandling of our lives with our own experiences and knowledge, trauma happens. When we return to God by choosing to trust Him instead of our own knowledge and feelings, this opens the door for God to begin the healing process. It doesn’t usually happen instantly because there are attitudes and wrong mindsets that have to be unrooted to bring a permanent solution. It is usually what I call the “onion peeling process” of removing the stinky layers of lies we believed and revealing the traumas that caused these wrong steps in our lives.

It is wonderful if we get a miracle and get healed instantly. Many times, it will be a time of walking out that healing. That is why in Mark 16:18 it says, “lay hands on the sick and they will recover.” Recovery is a process. It is not that God is punishing us. God sees that to keep what He has provided, like healing and abundant life, we need to change our thinking, habits, and grow to the place where we can keep what He wants us to have.

Time Not Wasted!

I have walked through twelve years of sickness and twelve operations. This assignment of death and destruction has now been broken off of me. It took these twelve years to reveal and change attitudes to be able to walk in health. Was that God’s fault? No! God probably had a short cut but when you are strong-willed and have a gift of problem solving, it is hard to let go and let God take over. The wonderful thing about walking through tough times is God’s ability to work all things for the good. God didn’t cause the sickness or tough times, but He did use them to change me and those around me.

Here are a few of the events in my life that God redeemed. The Veterans Administration Medical Center Oncology Department has a picture with me riding the Soaring Eagle 1500-foot zip line that has the scripture Isaiah 40:31 about rising up with eagles’ wings. This was to give hope to all the other stage four cancer patients. My doctors say I have stage four cancer, but all my PET scans have come back clear in the last two years. I say God healed me. All the emotional trauma of walking through these last twelve years revealed I had PTSD (Post Trauma Stress Disorder). This occurred from my time in the United States Air Force. This revelation gave me a lifetime pension that covers all of my financial needs in retirement. God used the PTSD to train me to operate in the gifts of Holy Spirit without the emotional pit falls other go through because I was shut down emotionally. I am now healed from PTSD, and my emotional health has returned.

God never promised an easy path, but He did say we would overcome these obstacles. Our lives in this world are temporary, and we need to focus on heavenly treasures stored up for us. This world is just a training ground which requires walking through dark valleys and deserts that God uses to reveal our hearts and create paths of the abundant life. You got this because you are God’s kid.

Prayers!

Father God,

I am praying for every person who reads these words. Show us how to receive all You have for us. Remove the lies and deceptive practices that have kept us trapped from receiving Your abundant life.

Holy Spirit,

Help us to see what needs to be changed and show us how to tap into the power of grace to change.

Jesus,

You paid the price for abundant life. We choose to follow You in this earthly journey. Guide us to the best path that creates victory for us and brings Your Kingdom on earth as it is in heaven. Amen!
