Are You a Prophetic Intercessors?

Have you every wondered where you fit in the Body of Christ. You know you have gifts that you see functioning in others, but no one recognizes these gifts in you! You know you are led by Holy Spirit to pray and do things that others may think are weird or different. Could it be that you are a prophetic intercessor? Hopefully, this message will give you some insight into how this gift operates. Prophetic intercessors are needed to move the Body of Christ forward towards victory. Knowing God has placed you in a special position will bring you peace.

Simeon was an intercessor. The Holy Spirit revealed to him that he would not die before he had seen the Lord’s Messiah. His hope in the coming Messiah paved the way for God’s prophesies to be fulfilled about the Messiah. Just as Jesus’ parents entered the temple court to give a sacrifice, Simeon was there. He cradled the baby Jesus and prophesied God’s word that Jesus was the Savior and light for the world. Luke 2:25-35

Hannah was loved by her husband, Elkanah, and even got a double portion of the priest sacrifice but her heart was broken because she had no children. Her heartfelt tears were misunderstood by the priest Eli, who thought she was drunk. When Eli realized she wasn’t drunk, he released God’s blessing on her. This resulted in Hannah becoming pregnant. She dedicated her son, Samuel, to priesthood. Her intercession opened the door for Samuel to be used as a priest and prophet to guide kings. Plus, God blessed her with other children (1 Samuel 1 & 2).

David and his men were protecting Nabal’s property while they were running from King Saul. Nabal was an evil man who had a godly wife, Abigail. When David request provision for his men from Nabal, Nabal refused to feed David’s men. This set David on the course of making the wrong choice to destroy Nabal. Nabal’s servants informed Abigail about the situation. Abigail knew of David’s call of God to be king and set about to correct her husband’s mistake. She provided abundant provision and asked that David would forgive this grievous mistake her husband had made. Not only did she save her family, but she directed David’s course back to God’s will (1 Samuel 25).

King Herod started arresting Christians and had James, the brother of John put to death. Peter was arrested and thrown into prison. To be sure Peter couldn’t escape, Peter was bound and had two soldiers sleeping beside him. The church, behind closed doors, intentionally prayed for Peter’s safety and deliverance. God answered the church’s prayers by sending an angel who broken the chains off Peter. The angel opened the prison doors without waking the soldiers. Peter appeared at the prayer meeting in Mary’s home. Mary recognized his voice was excited. But when she told the others they didn’t believe her. After Peter entered the home and explained what happened with the angel, they all rejoiced (Acts 12).

Each of these people changed the course of history through their prayers and actions. Don’t believe the lies that it is useless to pray or that your gift is unimportant. God is our Accountant. He keeps track of all our prayers and wipes away our tears (Revelation 5:8 & 8:3-4).

Some Attributes of a Prophetic Intercessor!

Mature prayer warriors have the ability to pray until they see their prayers come to pass. Immature prayer warriors become impatient and need to learn about God’s timing.

They have assignments to different areas requiring prayer. One person might have a burden to pray for government. Another has a burden for souls.

They can have tunnel vision because others are not carrying the vision they see. We need to be sensitive to the different directions the Lord shows each individual.

Their influence is with God through prayer, and they can become frustrated because leadership doesn’t see what they see. They need to learn to understand leadership is conducting an orchestra not just playing one instrument. Leadership needs to know how to encourage each different gift to fulfill their part.

Prayer warriors can feel they have no voice or influence with people. That is because their anointing is to bring God’s Kingdom on earth through prayer. They open heaven’s will by removing the barriers that stop God’s will being done in the earth.

Without prophetic intercessors, the burden would become too heavy for others to walk out their call. It is like Jesus entering Jerusalem on a donkey. People were cheering Jesus not the donkey but to fulfill the prophesy the donkey was needed (Matthew 21:5 & Zechariah 9:9).

Prophetic intercessors are like pregnant women walking through all the hormone changes and discomfort to birth God’s will on the earth (Roman 8:22 & Acts 7:34).

Intercessor is not just praying but stepping out to do what God shows you. Just like Abigal feeding David’s men, this action changed the course of history.

Life of an Intercessor

Rees Howells Intercessor: The Story of a Life Loved for God by Norman Grubb, tells the story of a Welch coal miner used in intercession that change the course of history. In 1938, he founded the Wales Bible College that started praying for the Jews of Europe to return to their ancestral land. This resulted in the United Nations re-establishing Israels rights to their land in 1947.

1“Rees Howells discovered the secret life of abiding in Christ—resting in His word and His promises. From that place of security and power, he was taught by the Holy Spirit to sustain a life of contending for the promises to be made reality.”

Dutch Sheet has an Intercessory Prayer book that breaks down practical ways to bring God’s Kingdom on earth as it is in heaven. He prayed over one comatose patient for over a year with no hint of recovery. But then God came and raised up that person back to wholeness.
