Change My Buttons Lord!

Have you ever been around someone who knows how to push you to become angry or frustrated?  They can just look at you in a certain way and you want to slap them. They give you backhanded compliments like, “Wow that is a good color on you, but it is too bad it doesn’t fit better.” Maybe they say, “Thanks for cooking the turkey. Maybe next year it won’t be so dry.” It could be a situation like someone pulling out in front of you on the road then they drive below the speed limit.

Certain types of people and situations cause us to lose control. That is what I mean about pushing a button on me that causes me to react in a way I don’t want to act. I was wrestling with God about people and things that cause me to react. I knew I needed to change but wasn’t sure what needed changing. I knew I needed to walk in God’s love but emotionally I wanted to slap someone or throw the computer out the door.

Now I know you may have never had these problems (ha ha) but I needed a solution. People were so mad at Jesus they tried to push him off a cliff and he just walked right through that angry crowd and went about doing God’s will. I wanted that power in my life.

Button Changing Power!

I had so many wounds (buttons) that I was back and forth emotionally. I didn’t let people see the emotions but when I was alone my mind would replay all these emotions. I called out to God for help. I finally prayed, “Lord, I only want you to push my buttons. Change my buttons!” Then God revealed a revelation about Psalms 23 to me.

I was reading Psalm 23 and I said to God, “Why in the world would I want a banquet table with my enemies?” He said, “If they were outside pounding on the door, you would be worried about them breaking into the room. If you can enjoy a good meal in front of your enemies, that means you have total victory and power over them. They can’t harm you.” I said, “I want that!”

This took me on a journey of facing my fears and traumas but with God’s protection in place. This is what Psalms 23 means when it talks about having a banquet table in the presence of your enemies. We walk through the valley of death which is dying to our control and protection. Then we come out with God’s protection because we took our hands from controlling the outcome.

It comes down to do you believe that God love you and is working all things for your best interest? Romans 8:28-30 NIV says, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.”

It says ALL THINGS not just GOOD THINGS! The things we walk through are used to conform us to the image of Jesus. It doesn’t mean God causes the bad things, but he does use them. Trails and problems are steppingstones to move us forward to greater victories. Scars from the battles, are tattoos of victorious won here on earth.

Ask God to change your buttons and you will begin a journey of a conqueror. It has been said that courage is not being afraid but stepping out despite the fear. You got this! God doesn’t make mistakes. You are here at this appointed time for a reason.
