Moral Compass!

What is a moral compass? It means we are ethical, honest, decent, honorable, just, and principled. When the United States was formed, our forefathers were willing to stand behind what they believed. They put their family, money, and reputation on the altar of sacrifice wanting a nation free to serve God. They weren’t perfect, but they had a moral compass.

How did we end up with a nation that allows decisions because of skin color, our personal choices on women’s rights, exalting drug users as heroes, and white extremist groups taking over the voice of our moral compass? Somehow, we switched our ethics to the unfairness that has happened to us. Without realizing it, we allowed our wounds to dictate our conscience.

The voice of reasoning is not being heard. The voice of God has been tainted, mixed, and watered down with a religious spirit. It is like pissing in the wind (1idiom that means pointless, fruitless, or waste of time) which comes back and stains the church’s voice.

Jesus only did and said what the Father told him to say and do. He did it in God timing and way. Because of this, it caused a shaking among his followers. Martha and Mary were tested with the death of their brother, Lazarus. They didn’t understand why Jesus delayed his visit and allowed Lazarus to die. The apostles were tested in the garden and fell asleep. Pete used his sword at the wrong time and cut off a person’s ear, which Jesus had to reattach. This is how most people react during transitional times. Blaming God, sleeping when pressure comes, and reacting in anger.

God uses the hard times to show the cracks in our foundations. These times test our faith and rattle our core beliefs. Hard times are used to reset our moral compass back to our kingdom manual, which is the word of God.

I heard this story about a tight rope walker. His rope was placed over Nigeria Falls. As the crowd watched and cheered, he crossed over the falls without falling. Then he pulled out a wheel barrel. He asked the crowd, “Do you believe I can do it again?” The crowd shouted and chanted, “Yes! Do it again!” He said to the crowd, “If you believe I can, who will go with me in this wheel barrel?” Silence fell on the crowd and not one person volunteered.

Without a test there is no testimony. True faith is connected to action not just words of agreement. If your faith is based on anything but the Word of God, you won’t get in the wheel barrel with Jesus. Without the kingdom manual we have no plumb line to know if we are walking the straight path.

Prayer

Father God,

Reset my moral compass back to the original intent that you have stated in your Word. Forgive me for allowing wounds and cultural influences to dictate my decisions. Remove any veils of deception and let me see the kingdom of God view in all my decisions. I want to know your voice above my own and the world’s voices shouting at me to come over here. I am choosing to follow you. By your grace and because of the price Jesus paid, I am willing to have my moral compass recalibrate back to the word of God. Amen!
