What do you do when events don’t happen the way you expected? Here is how I process disappointment. You admit that you are disappointed or hurt but then submit your expectations to God.
God love you and Jesus died for you. This means God wants His best for your life. Even when you may not be able to see the path to God’s best, He is stilling working on your behalf. It is decision time to trust God or sit down and have a pity party for one. When we submit our disappointments to God this opens our eyes to find God’s path. The Bible says He will give you a crown of beauty for burnt up dreams and expectations.
When we are disappointed or even mad at God, we need to realize that we can’t see the whole picture. You don’t let go of your faith that He is working all things to your good. Look at it this way. You have your heart set on God meeting a need with money. Instead of a check in the mail, He provides an opportunity to help someone in need. In the natural, this looks like the opposite of what you asked for. In God’s Kingdom, it is an opportunity to plant a seed for your future harvest. You need an acorn to produce an oak tree. There was famine in the land during Isaac’s life. He was going to leave the land and go to Egypt, but God told him to stay and God would bless him. Isaac stayed and planted seeds in a famine. He was blessed with a hundred-fold return.
Shifting Expectations
You don’t give up your faith for a victory in God, but you shift your expectations. You focus on a BIG God and not on your expectations.
Instead of looking at things as defeating, submitting your expectations opens up a door for God to redeem events in ways you never thought of. This keeps you close to God. It keeps your faith intact. It builds in you at attitude of a victor and not a victim. People may think you have lost your vision but in fact, you have just shifted your thinking from the things you can see right now to the bigger picture that God has for you.
Once you are rooted and grounded in God’s love for you, this allows your vision to grow and to see from His perspective. Abraham had to wait for twenty-five years for a child. David waited to be king for close to fifteen years. Allow God to adjust your vision to Kingdom vision which says we are more than conquerors.
To keep your faith active, you need an action plan. One way to keep your faith working is by planting a seed for the crop you want. I want change in Washington, so I joined a conservative organization that fights for what I want done in Washington. You always plant a seed for the future crop you want. You want the media to change, then find a group like the Epoch Times, which does in-depth research before publishing its paper. If you are lonely, then go visit someone who is needs a friend.
May the hurts and wounds from events that have caused us to be shaken, be used to ground us in God’s love. May our faith expand to see God as Bigger than this world’s systems.
