I was playing a video game and God corrected my strategy and focus. In this game, you need to match three items to move and remove barriers. This allows you to get to these grassy places where hidden tools were and then to where the hidden object was. I know! Computer nerd! It has to do with my gifting to pull down strongholds and find hidden spiritual truths. A prophet can hear God in just about anything they do.
After going to almost the end of the game, which took hours for each level, the Spirit of God spoke to me. He said, “You don’t have to clear away all of the blockage to get to the treasure.” I thought WHAT! I started meditating on what I heard. The next day, I played the game and only cleared enough of the blockage to move pass it to the reward. I thought, why didn’t I see this before. It would have saved so much time. But because I am used to pulling down strongholds and barriers, I was distracted by the barriers instead of the mission to get the tools and treasurers.
The reason I am going into detail about the game is to share some spiritual insight that will save you a whole lot of time. Depending on your gifting and function in the Body of Christ, what someone else may do could be a waste of time for you. How we were raised or how we were affected by trauma may taint our path with unnecessary detours.
The journey is what I am focusing on which will bring you to your promise land. It will be a process but instead of wasting your time, you will be climbing the right ladder of success in the Kingdom of God.
Different Parts of the Body of Christ
Some people are called to clear the land to build. The promise land was to be cleared little by little. This was how farmers increased their land. They clear enough the first year, so they could survive and build a house. Each of the following years, they cleared more land to bring increase. Towns would be built, and business would come to town. People were called to build and maintain the land. In the business world, this is those who stay at their jobs for years. They see the office people as family.
A scout is called to find a trail or make a way for others to follow. These people like to solve problems then move on to other jobs. They don’t clear the whole land. They make the highway for others to walk on. Sometimes these people are misunderstood as being restless and unreliable. Many times, it is not being unreliable, but they are trail blazers whose call pushes them on to find new ways of doing things. Inventors, corporate raiders, and consultants could fit in this category.
Are you seeing a pattern forming? Am I making you think where you fit in?
King David was used to remove the enemies of God and protect the people. He was a warrior that knew when to hide in caves and when to attack the enemies. He attracted the distress, those in debt and the discontented. God changed these men into mighty warriors! Some of the most annoying people in your business might be in the wrong job. A warrior will hate being chained to a desk. They just need to be directed to the right place to fight or war. These are the people who are loyal but need to know they are fighting for the right cause. An example of this is giving people stock in the company so they have skin in the game. They can be the biggest complainers who can be redirected to fight real problems.
King David’s son, Solomon, was the builder in the family. He had the strategy and wisdom to partner with others to bring increase and multiplication. These are your people who know how to build on relationships. An example of this is what I call the “good old boy” system. You find this at colleges in the sororities and fraternities. The friendship and connects made will last a lifetime. They may not even like each other but are tied together by the fraternity connection. These are the people who have right connections to resources. They are good working on committees and group projects.
John the Baptist made a path for Jesus to come on the scene. He was a path maker. He would not have fit in a church or company. But he was considered the greatest prophet by Jesus because he made a way in the wilderness for Jesus to come out and take his place. These are your people who have a zeal for the truth and can be uncompromising. They need to be placed where you do not want compromise. A place like an inspector or accountant who won’t balance the books if one penny is missing. These are people you can trust to be honest and have integrity.
The disciples blazed paths for others to walk on. They planted people who were builders for the Kingdom of God. They knew what people had to offer and what gifts were needed to build. These are the administrators and organizers of a company. They have the big picture and see how all the parts fit to make the business flow.
You Identity as a King’s Kid!
Now that I have got you thinking about where you fit in or how your gift functions, it is time to find your place. Clearing the playing field will be different for each person. It depends on their function and position in the Body of Christ. A mother, husband, grandfather or CEO will all have different functions in their position. All have a part, but each role requires a different way of handling their territory.
It isn’t about who is greater. It is about your gifts, function and position. Jesus said the greatest is the servant. What does this mean? Part of the meaning is because you love the Lord, your focus should be on building His Kingdom first. This is building on a firm foundation that won’t be washed away in a title wave. These principles apply to all aspects of your life. The KEY is your identity and function.
Your identity is you are “God’s Kid” but to be able to operate in this revelation you need to know God loves you. This is developed by learning to trust Him with your life. The wrong mindsets can be caused by disappointments, trauma, or childhood training that puts you in a box of fear and hopelessness. God planted His love in your heart. Asking Him to make His love real will open the door for healing and restoration. I had to read Hannah Smith’s book 1“The Christian’s Secret of a Happy Life” for seven years in a row to receive the love of God. I really didn’t know the love of God. Reading this book, shifted my thinking and caused me to understand the principle of all things work for my good. At the bottom of this training is the Bible’s love verses put in a way that will cause you to be grounded in the love of God. As you walk in the love of God, it will change mindset, heal wounds and release the power of God to change situations.
Function – Where You fit in!
Your function is where you fit in. Your function is made up of your gifting, what draws your interest, which is your hearts desire and your relationships. When your identity is developing the way God intended, then your function will start being revealed. It will be like a magnet and will draw you to the right things. Without your true identity being in place, you will draw the wrong things. This is why you see abused people draw abusers in their lives. Another example is picking the wrong employment, so you are never happy and can’t excel at work.
The way God explained it to me changed my destiny. Because I had a gift of discernment, I would see wrong attitudes or spiritual motives of people. I was taught “the truth would set you free.” This mindset caused me to take the word of God and attack lies I saw that people believed. Then I heard God say, “You are cutting off arms for a hangnail!” I dropped to my knees and repented and asked for God’s wisdom on how to use the gift of discernment.
I was explaining to God about the truth setting people free. He had me reread this whole scripture. It says, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the Truth and the Truth will set you free.” Holy Spirit highlighted the words “my disciples.” I realized if the people you are trying to set free are not disciples of Christ, you may be “casting your pearls before swine.” Which means, people who don’t want to hear the truth will just turn on you and not be set free. Because this scripture was taken out of context, it wasn’t setting people free. This is a good example of why religious thinking doesn’t work. It is Kingdom thinking that allows Jesus to make His word a living word that sets people free. I call this “Kingdom Glasses”.
To make sure I really understood this teaching, God gave me a vision. In this vision, I saw myself standing at a podium in a room filled with people. The room was black as night, but I could hear the people moving around. I reached for the light switch and turned on the light. All the people in the audience were eaten up with diseases. When I turned on the light the people discovered these diseases and they all turn on me blaming me for their sickness. When I first had this vision, I saw it through the eyes of pride. I thought, they had no right to be mad at me because I didn’t cause their problems, I just turned on the light. After a few years of getting attacked and being humbled, I sought the Lord. He said, “Don’t turn on the light until you can heal the people.” I repented for using the gift of discernment and the Word of God wrong. God then said, “I will make you a laser and people will not even know they are being operated on.” Needless to say, I quit cutting off arm and learned to use God’s laser. It saves me a lot of heartache and needless battles.
These lessons changed the path of my life and refined my gifting which caused me to function in my place in the Body of Christ. Kingdom Glasses, which is seeing through God’s view, saves time, removes rabbit trails, releases God’s Kingdom in my life and in the lives of my circle of influence.
Your gifts are given to you by God and are not earned. Whether you are successful depends on how you use them. Your fruit grows as you stay connected to Jesus. You don’t see an apple tree straining or confessing scriptures to produce apples. It just stays connected to its roots. Jesus is our tree of life so to produce life we have to stay connected to Him.
Your identity is “I am God’s kid.” Your function may change at different season in your life. A mother becomes a grandmother. A father played baseball but later becomes a coach. You might start out cleaning toilets and end up having a call as a pastor. A lawyer who is a prosecutor could become a judge. A rebellious child could become a determined scientist. It is the journey that needs to be enjoyed. God watches over each step we take as a loving Father who is directing our path as we submit to Him.
May the distractions of life be revealed and your path clear to fulfill the purpose and function God has for you. Amen!
Confessions:
Paraphrase into a confession
Love — Based on 1 Corinthians 13
God is love – 1 John 4:8
God’s love toward me endures long and is patient and kind; God’s love toward me is never envious, nor boils over with jealousy, is not boastful or vainglorious, He does not display his self haughtily.
God is not conceited (arrogant and inflated with pride); God is not rude (unmannerly) and does not act unbecomingly. God’s love toward me does not insist on his own rights or his own way, for He is not self-seeking; He is not touchy or fretful or resentful; He takes no account of the evil done to Him [He pays no attention to a suffered wrong].
God’s love toward me does not rejoice at injustice and unrighteousness but rejoices when right and truth prevail.
God’s love toward me bears up under anything and everything that comes, is ever ready to believe the best of every person, His hopes are fadeless under all circumstances, and He endures everything [without weakening].
God’s love toward me never fails [never fades out or becomes obsolete or comes to an end] ….
Ephesians 3:17-19
And I pray that I would be rooted and established in love and have power, with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ (for me and others), and to know this love that surpasses knowledge — that I may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
Proverbs 3:5-8 & Matthew 6:10
I choose to trust the Lord Jesus, with all my heart and will not rely on my own experiences, knowledge or earthly wisdom. I ask for God’s direction over all of my decisions which gives Him permission to make paths that will cause His Kingdom to come on earth as it is in heaven. I choose not to rely on my own worldly wisdom and put God first which is how the fear of the Lord works in my life. These decisions bring God’s health to my whole body.
